Govinddas Hospital of Jabalpur has become the India’s first Government
District Hospital to conduct the first cochlear implant surgery. A team
comprising ENT Specialist Dr. Rumita Acharya, Child Specialist Dr. Himanshu
Acharya, Anaesthicist Dr. Rajesh Mishra, Dr. Nitin Adgaonkar and Dr. Vishal
Mehra led by Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. Murli Agrawal successfully
operated six-year-old Saif Raza, hearing-impaired by birth. Health Director,
Administration, Bhopal was also present during the operation.
Cochlear
surgeries of children who are deaf and dumb by birth are performed
free-of-cost in government-recognized private hospitals under the Rashtriya
Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK). Government bears the expense of Rs 6 lakh 50
thousand of cochlear implant surgery under Mukhya Mantri Bal Shravan Yojana.
Thousands of children of the state are being benefitted under the scheme and
moving ahead. The state RBSK team along with the Health Department has a
significant contribution in making today’s surgery successful. |
