Lauding efforts being undertaken by the State AIDS Control Committee, Public
Health and Family Welfare Minister Shri Rustum Singh said that continue
efforts to make Madhya Pradesh a Zero AIDS state. The percentage of HIV/AIDS
in the state in year 2005 was 11.45 which has now come down to 0.42 per cent
due to the constant efforts of the committee. Shri Singh said this while
addressing a state-level programme organized on World AIDS Day in Bhopal. He
told the doctors and medical students that they should treat the poor on
priority with a sense of service to humanity. He said that the noticeable
decline in the number of AIDS patients in state is due to the contribution
of both doctors and media. On the occasion Project Director Shri Umesh Kumar
was also present.

The committee organized a seminar on “Challenges and Possibilities of AIDS
Control Programme”. In this Dr. Manisha Shrivastava gave information on
“Blood transfusion and HIV/AIDS”, Dr. Madhuri Chandra on “Prevention from
HIV/AIDS in newborns”, Dr. Hemant Verma on role of ART in HIV/AIDS
management, Dr. Sunil Kumar on ‘AIDS and Cancer’ and Dr. Manoj Verma on
“Co-relation between HIV and TB”.
Representatives of voluntary organizations and integrated counseling and
testing centres of all districts apart from paramedical students and
students from various medical colleges, nursing schools of Bhopal took part
in the seminar. They also enthusiastically took part in quiz, magic and
candle march programmes. A candle march was taken out from Samanvay Bhavan
to Gammon India Mall for AIDS awareness.
Joint Director Smt. Savita Thakur conducted the programme while Joint
Director Dr. U.C. Yadav proposed the vote of thanks. |
